Causing someone to stop in today’s economy of images is an increasingly difficult task. Stopping is a bold gesture. Unlike conjuring an individual emotion, be it fear, grief, or joy, stopping begs the surrender of one’s entire attention. These days, that is an awful lot to ask.

Few objects compel us to stop as intuitively as indicators do. They are particularly good communicators with a narrow role, and heeding them tends to be in the viewer’s best interest.

Leveraging this authority, I employ indicators, reflectors, and signals to continue their existing vocations: to indicate, reflect upon, and signal. Perhaps they have more to say once removed from the prescribed context of an auto body. Who am I not to listen?

If nothing else, the endeavour makes me the first Floridian ever to use a turn signal.
